Mission Critical add-on
This feature is in Public Preview.
Mission Critical is a workspace-level add-on that bundles managed disaster recovery (DR) with Enhanced Security and Compliance (ESC) features. Enabling the add-on on a workspace makes the bundled features available on that workspace and bills its compute usage at the Mission Critical rate. For pricing, see Platform add-ons pricing.
Managed DR is in Gated Public Preview. Before you enable Mission Critical, enable the Managed DR Public Preview for your account so that you can fully leverage add-on capabilities. If you enable Mission Critical without the Managed DR Public Preview enabled, you are billed for Mission Critical without the ability to use DR. The Mission Critical UI prompts you to enable the Managed DR Public Preview before you turn on the add-on. Contact your Databricks account team to enable the Managed DR Public Preview.
What is included
Enabling the Mission Critical add-on on a workspace unlocks the following features. After you enable the add-on, you still configure each feature in its own location.
Feature | Where to configure |
|---|---|
Managed disaster recovery | |
Compliance security profile (CSP) | |
Enhanced security monitoring (ESM, classic compute only) | |
Automatic cluster update (ACU, classic compute only) |
ESC features are included in Mission Critical at no extra charge. If you already use ESC on a workspace, enabling Mission Critical will retain your ESC configurations. In this case, Databricks bills you for Mission Critical, not for ESC.
Requirements
- A workspace on the Enterprise plan.
- The account admin role. Only account admins can change the Mission Critical toggle.
Enable Mission Critical on a workspace
- In the account console, click Workspaces.
- Click the workspace where you want to enable the add-on.
- Click the Add-ons tab.
- On the Mission Critical card, turn on the toggle.
- Confirm the change.
- Configure relevant features. See Managed disaster recovery and Configure enhanced security and compliance settings.
To use managed DR, repeat these steps on the secondary workspace before you create a failover group. For end-to-end DR setup, including how to create and manage failover groups, see Managed disaster recovery.
Disable Mission Critical on a workspace
Before you disable Mission Critical, if managed DR is active on the workspace, stop replication first. You can't turn off Mission Critical while any failover group on the workspace is active. Delete the relevant failover group, then continue.
- In the account console, click Workspaces, then click the workspace.
- Click the Add-ons tab.
- On the Mission Critical card, turn off the toggle.
After you turn off Mission Critical, the workspace stops being billed at the Mission Critical rate. Any ESC features you configured on the workspace remain in place, and Databricks continues to bill them as part of the ESC add-on.
If the Compliance security profile (CSP) is enabled on the workspace with compliance standards selected, the workspace is permanently kept on CSP after you turn off Mission Critical and can't be moved off the ESC add-on. CSP is a one-way setting. For more, see Configure enhanced security and compliance settings.
