What is consumer access?
Consumer access provides a secure, read-only experience that enables a business user to access dashboards and Genie spaces in a simplified Databricks workspace. This page explains how to navigate the simplified workspace and outlines the capabilities associated with this access type.

Consumer capabilities
Consumer access gives you access to the following:
- A simplified workspace user interface focused on the consumption of dashboards and Genie spaces that have been shared with you.
- SQL warehouses for use with third-party tools like PowerBI or Tableau.
If your permissions are limited to consumer access, you cannot create workspace objects.
Navigate the workspace
When you login to your workspace, a simplified workspace homepage opens.
After you start working with data assets, the Recents and Favorites tabs populate with content that you have recently visited or starred. The Popular tab shows a list of assets based on how frequently they are visited by other workspace users.
Use the sidebar on the left to explore data by asset type.
- To access the dashboards listing page, click
Dashboards in the left sidebar. - To access the Genie space listing page, click
Genie in the left sidebar.
Listing pages
The dashboards and Genie listing pages each show the related assets that have been shared with you.
Use the search bar to fiilter spaces by name. Use the button filters to filter by one of the following:
Tab / filter | Description |
|---|---|
All | This tab is selected by default when you open the listing page. It shows all of the assets from this workspace that have been shared with you. |
Favorites | Shows all assets that you have marked as a favorite. You can mark a dashboard or Genie space as a favorite by clicking the star next to the title when viewing the asset. |
Popular | Displays assets that others are using in your workspace. |
Last modified | Allows you to filter by the time period in which the asset was last edited. Choose Anytime, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, or Last 30 days from the drop-down menu. |
Owner | Use the Owner drop-down menu to filter by the name of the dashboard or Genie space owner. You can select multiple users. |
Last modified and Owner only appear when the All tab is selected. You can combine filters from this view.
