Sign up for Databricks free trial with existing AWS account
This article explains how to sign up for a Databricks free trial using the AWS Marketplace and deploy your first workspace.
Create your Databricks account
When you sign up for Databricks through the AWS Marketplace, AWS deploys your first Databricks workspace for you. This is a serverless workspace with always-on serverless compute and default storage. For more information on serverless workspaces, see Create a serverless workspace.
- Go to the Databricks page in AWS Marketplace and start the sign-up process for the free trial.
- Follow the prompts to create your Databricks account on the Databricks website.
- When you AWS account is linked to your Databricks account, click the Continue to Databricks button to open your new Databricks workspace.
You can start working in your new serverless workspace immediately. If you'd like to deploy a classic workspace, return to the AWS Marketplace window and follow the instructions in the next section.
Create a classic workspace (optional)
Classic workspaces are workspaces where you can deploy and manage compute and storage resources in your own AWS account. Serverless compute is still available in classic workspaces. For more information on the differences between serverless and classic workspaces, see Choosing a workspace type.
Databricks credits apply to Databricks usage. If you deploy a classic workspace, AWS will charge you for AWS resources used during and after the free trial.
Requirements
To create a classic workspace, you need the following:
- Permission in your AWS account to provision IAM roles and S3 buckets.
- Available service quotas in your AWS region for a Databricks deployment. You need an available VPC and NAT gateway. You can view your available quotas and request increases using the AWS Service Quotas console.
- Your AWS account must have the STS endpoint activated for
us-west-2. For details, see the AWS documentation.
Deploy a classic workspace
If you'd like to provision a classic workspace:
- Return to the AWS Marketplace window and click Next to continue the sign-up flow. This will open the Configure workspace form.
- Review your workspace configurations and launch your new Databricks workspace.
- After the deployment finishes, log in to your workspace through the account console.
If you have deployed a classic workspace, and later decide to cancel your account, be sure to delete all associated resources from your AWS console to prevent continued costs. For instructions, see Cancel your Databricks plan.
Troubleshooting account creation
If you encounter errors during the AWS Marketplace subscription process, you can cancel the Databricks subscription and start over.
To restart your AWS free trial:
- Go to your AWS Marketplace Subscriptions page.
- Locate and click the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform link.
- Click the Actions dropdown and select Cancel Subscription.

- Click the
button to the right of AWS Marketplace.
- Click Delete to delete the AWS Marketplace as a payment method.
- Click Delete to confirm deletion.
- Return to the AWS Marketplace Databricks listing and follow the subscription steps again to redeploy your account and workspace.
