Create an Oracle connection

Create an Oracle connection in Unity Catalog to store authentication credentials for Lakeflow Connect ingestion. Any user with the USE CONNECTION privilege on the connection can then create Oracle ingestion pipelines without needing direct access to the credentials.

Alternatively, admin users can create a connection and a pipeline at the same time in the data ingestion UI. See Create an integrated CDC pipeline for Oracle.

Prerequisites​

Complete the Oracle source setup. Use the replication user credentials you create to configure the connection.

Create a connection​

  1. In the Databricks workspace, click Data icon. Catalog.

  2. Click Plug icon. Connect, then click Connections.

  3. Click the Create connection button.

  4. Enter a unique Connection name.

  5. For Connection type, select Oracle.

  6. For Host, enter the Oracle domain name that hosts your database.

  7. For Service name, enter the service name of the Oracle instance. The Oracle connector takes the service name from the connection or the pipeline definition:

    • For a single-tenant (non-CDB) database, use the service name of the database.
    • For a multi-tenant (CDB) database, use the CDB$ROOT service name.
    • If the database has the DB_DOMAIN parameter set, use the full, domain-qualified service name (for example, <service>.example.com). See Database domain.

  8. Choose how Databricks encrypts the connection to Oracle:

    • Oracle native network encryption (default): encrypts the connection using Oracle native network encryption. No certificate is required.

  9. Choose how Databricks encrypts the connection to Oracle:

    • Oracle native network encryption (default): Encrypts the connection using Oracle's built-in encryption protocol. No certificate is required.
    • TLS: Encrypts the connection over TCPS. Use the database's TCPS listener port, and optionally provide the server's CA certificate in PEM format to validate the server's identity. Unity Catalog stores the certificate securely with encryption.

  10. For User and Password, enter the credentials of the replication user. See Create the replication user.

  11. Click Create connection.

note

Do not use the SYS or SYSTEM user for replication. Oracle stores unquoted identifiers in uppercase, so enter the username in uppercase unless you created it as a quoted identifier with a different case, in which case enter that exact case.
