PayPal connector FAQ
This feature is in Beta. To use it, a workspace admin must turn on Lakeflow Connect for PayPal from the Previews page. See Manage Databricks previews.
This page answers frequently asked questions about the managed PayPal ingestion connector in Lakeflow Connect. For FAQs that apply to all managed connectors, see Managed connector FAQs.
Which PayPal accounts does the connector require?
The connector requires a PayPal Business account with a REST API app for production data. To ingest test data, use a PayPal sandbox account and set the connection's Environment to Sandbox.
Which tables does the connector support?
The connector supports six source tables: transaction, dispute, invoice, balance, product, and billing_plan. For the full schemas, see Destination table schemas.
How far back can the connector ingest data?
For incremental tables, the first sync starts from the start_datetime option. If you don't set it, transaction starts about 3 years back, dispute starts 179 days back, and invoice starts 5 years back. PayPal makes at most 3 years of transactions and 180 days of disputes available. For these two tables, earlier start_datetime values are moved forward to 3 years for transaction and 179 days for dispute. Each later sync ingests records changed after the last run. Full-refresh tables reingest all available records on every run.
How current is transaction data?
New transactions can take up to 3 hours to appear in the PayPal transaction search API, so the transaction table lags real time by at least that much. See the PayPal Transaction Search API.
Each sync rereads transactions initiated in the previous 6 hours, so changes made later than that aren't captured. This is because PayPal API doesn't allow us to ingest transactions based on its updated time. To pick up as many changes as possible, run the pipeline at least every 6 hours.
Does the connector capture deleted records?
No. PayPal doesn't make deletes available for transactions or invoices. Canceled invoices appear with status set to CANCELLED. See Deleted records.
Which authentication methods does the connector support?
The connector supports authentication using OAuth client credentials (M2M) from a PayPal REST API app only. OAuth U2M and basic authentication aren't supported.
