Use Genie in Microsoft Excel

You can access Genie One from the Databricks Excel Add-in. Ask questions about your governed Databricks data in natural language and bring the answers into Microsoft Excel as native rows and columns.

Genie answers questions about the governed data in your Databricks workspace, not the data in your spreadsheet.

Prerequisites

• Verify the Excel Add-in is set up.
• You have access to Genie One.

Chat with Genie

To open the Genie One interface, click the Genie icon in the top-right corner of the Databricks Add-in pane in Excel.

1. Start chatting with Genie:
   • Start a new chat by typing a question or by clicking the new chat icon.
   • Select a previous conversation from under Recent to continue it.
2. Ask your question in plain English.
3. Review the answer and check the citations.
4. Revisit a conversation anytime through conversation history, and delete chats you no longer need.

Integration capabilities

Import table results

Bring a table of Genie results directly into Excel as native rows and columns.

1. When Genie returns a table, click Import.
2. Enter a name for the import.
3. Select the destination for the data.
4. Click Save and Import.

View conversation history

Every conversation is saved, so you can revisit past chats and their answers.

1. In the Genie One interface in the Databricks Add-in pane, click the conversation history icon.
2. Select the conversation you want to open.
3. Continue the conversation.

Delete a conversation

Permanently remove conversations you no longer need. Results already imported into your spreadsheet are not affected.

1. In the Genie One interface in the Databricks Add-in pane, click the conversation history icon.
2. Click the delete button next to the conversation you want to delete.
