Share Lakeview dashboards

Preview

This feature is in Public Preview.

This page describes how to share Lakeview dashboards with users, groups, and service principals.

Lakeview dashboards differ from Databricks SQL dashboards. For information on sharing Databricks SQL dashboards, see Share Databricks SQL dashboards.

Lakeview dashboard permissions

There are five permission levels for Lakeview dashboards: No Permissions, Can View, Can Run, Can Edit, and Can Manage. For Lakeview dashboards, Can View and Can Run permissions provide identical abilities. For sharing with other users in the workspace, permissions granted on a dashboard apply to both the dashboard draft and published snapshots. For more information on sharing published dashboards to account users outside of the workspace, see What is Lakeview share to account?.

Note

Draft dashboards apply the credentials of the viewing user to execute queries and use the assigned warehouse. You can optionally embed credentials in a published dashboard. If credentials are embedded, the credentials of the user who published the dashboard are used to execute queries in the dashboard.

Databricks recommends sharing dashboards with most users using Can View permissions. Users with Can View can view both the draft and published version of the Lakeview dashboard. They can also view the dashboard in the list in their workspace and refresh the dashboard.

Manage dashboard permission with folders

You can also manage Lakeview dashboard permissions by adding Lakeview dashboards to folders. Lakeview dashboards in a folder inherit all permissions settings of that folder. For example, a user that has Can Edit permission on a folder has Can Edit permission on the Lakeview dashboards in that folder. To learn about configuring permissions on folders, see Folder permissions.

To learn more about organizing Lakeview dashboards into folders, see Workspace browser.
