Databricks Designated Services

This article describes Databricks Designated Services, which are features in Databricks that use Databricks Geos to manage data residency when processing customer content.

If a Designated Service is available in your workspace's Geo, then your content is processed in that Geo. Some Designated Services are not natively available in all Geos, and admins might need to enable cross-Geo processing before these Designated Services can be used. If you enable cross-Geo processing on your workspace, the Designated Service can process your content in other Geos. Importantly, your data is not stored outside of your workspace's Geo regardless of this setting.

The following table describes the availability of Designated Services in each Geo:

Some designated services in some countries have additional in-country data residency guarantees.

The following features will soon be available with in-country routing enforced in Brazil, Canada, Japan, and the UK:

• Databricks Assistant chat and cell actions
• Genie
• AI/BI dashboards

These features will soon be available natively with in country processing in Brazil, Canada, Japan, and the UK. Data processing for these features will remain in the country in addition to within geo. See What's coming.

* This feature is only available when you enable cross-Geo processing on your workspace. Where multiple models are available for a particular feature, some models might only be available if cross-Geo processing has been enabled. See Supported foundation models on Mosaic AI Model Serving for model-specific region availability.

† Traffic is processed within the same country as the workspace region for Japan when you disable cross-Geo processing. For other countries in the Asia Geo, including Singapore, this feature requires cross-Geo processing, and traffic can be sent for processing within Japan.

For AI assistive features, when cross-geo processing is enabled, workspaces in the Americas use a US-based model, and workspaces in Europe use a Europe-based model when available.
